Bishop Charles May was born in Cape Town, South Africa, and completed his Senior Certificate at Heathfield High School in 1972. He holds a National Certificate for Technicians from the Training Centre for Seamen (1977), along with certifications in diesel engine simulation, advanced fire fighting, first aid, and occupational health and safety. He also earned a Marine Engineers Certificate Class 2 Part A in 1984 and completed a competency-based trainer course through the South African Institute of Civil Engineers. He undertook further study toward a Higher Education Diploma (Technical) at the University of South Africa.

His professional career spans several decades and includes roles as a computer operator, marine engineering cadet, lecturer in marine engineering, production manager in Melbourne, technician, and service manager in Brisbane.

Bishop Charles has a long-standing commitment to Christian ministry. He served as a Family Group Leader and Sunday School Superintendent at Rondevlei Methodist Church in Cape Town from 1982 to 1989. Within the Anglican Independent Communion Australia Inc., he was ordained as a Lay Reader in 2009, Deacon in 2010, Priest in 2011, and consecrated as Bishop in 2014, with a focus on pastoral care and nursing home services.

He is the proud father of two daughters and remains dedicated to serving God and the Anglican Independent Communion Australia Inc.
