Child Protection

  • The Anglican Independent Communion Worldwide establishes this Code of Practice to protect children and vulnerable adults interacting with clergy and church workers.

  • Individuals seeking Holy Orders or licensing as a Lay Minister must provide a current Blue Card for child-related employment.

  • Anyone listed on the Sex Offenders Register is barred from ministry positions or roles involving children or young people.

  • Practising homosexuals are not eligible for ministry or leadership roles with children or young people. The Communion welcomes all to worship but upholds its stance on leadership examples.

  • Ministers must not provide religious instruction or minister to a child unless accompanied by a second responsible adult (not necessarily a parent or carer).

  • Youth activities must have a second responsible adult present, with mixed-gender groups requiring at least one adult of each sex. A Register of Attendance must be signed by all participants.

  • Ministers must avoid situations prone to false allegations, such as driving children alone to worship or events.

  • Ministers must adhere to child protection policies of other organisations where they serve.

  • The Child Protection Officer, appointed by the Metropolitan Archbishop, reports directly to the Archbishop on child protection matters.
