Holy Matrimony and Family Life
Matrimonial Consent – Marriage is established through an irrevocable covenant where a man and a woman mutually give and accept one another.
Marriage Bond – A marriage creates a permanent and exclusive bond between spouses.
Parental Responsibility – Parents and guardians have a serious obligation to ensure their children’s physical, social, cultural, moral, and spiritual upbringing.
Pastoral Care & Remarriage – The Church provides pastoral care for those who experience divorce. Remarriage is permitted if the priest is satisfied that it is undertaken with sincerity and commitment, following due and diligent inquiry.
Blessings – Priests may impart blessings, except those reserved for bishops. Deacons and deaconesses may bless people but not objects.
Exorcisms – No cleric may perform an exorcism without the express permission of a bishop, following the Church’s prescribed Form of Exorcism. Due to legal implications, consultation with the Chancellor is strongly advised.
Ministerial Authority – Ministers of the Church, if licensed by the Attorney-General’s Department, are authorised to conduct baptisms, marriages, funerals and other Christian services in accordance with their orders.
